Service with Integrity

About this book

Service with Integrity preserves the life, professional journey and legacy of a physician whose career was defined not merely by medical achievement but by the values with which that work was undertaken.

The biography places Dr Afiesimama’s story within the wider development of medicine, healthcare and society in Nigeria, tracing the experiences, education, professional relationships and responsibilities that shaped his career. Through personal recollections, family history and documentary material, the book presents both the accomplished medical professional and the human being behind the professional reputation.

Its title captures its central theme: service accompanied by integrity. Medical excellence is presented not simply as technical competence, but as responsibility towards patients, colleagues, institutions, family and society.

As a posthumous biography, the book also performs another important function: preservation. It ensures that the values, achievements and experiences of one generation are not lost when that generation passes.

Ultimately, Service with Integrity is both biography and legacy—a record of a doctor’s contribution to medicine and a family’s attempt to preserve the character, principles and service of a father whose influence continued beyond his lifetime.
